National HIV Testing Day

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. This year’s theme, Test Your Way. Do It Today., is a call to get tested now and a reminder that there are more ways than ever to get an HIV test.

About 1.1 million people in the United States have HIV, and 1 in 7 of them don’t know it. Young people are the most likely to be unaware of their HIV infection. CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care.

Alliance will be providing free and confidential testing at all of it's locations (find times here) as well as at the below Duane Reade locations from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • 194 East 2nd Street
  • 1 Penn Plaza
  • 300 West 135th Street

Brooklyn SCS Town Hall

Council Members Stephen Levin (District 33) and Brad Lander (District 39) are hosting a town hall with our partner VOCAL-NY regarding the pilot of an Overdose Prevention Center (or Safer Consumption Space) in Brooklyn.

Overdose Prevention Centers have been proven to save lives, reduce the spread of HIV and hepatitis C, reduce the risks/harms associated with law enforcement and people who use drugs, and provide critical linkage to services and treatment.

Community dialogue is important as NYC moves forward with the Mayor’s plan to implement four pilot centers. If you live in Council Member Levin or Lander’s district, please join us at the town hall (details below) to provide insight on harm reduction and how Overdose Prevention Centers are critical public health interventions in the fight to end overdose:

When: June 25th at 7-9 PM
Where: BAM Fisher 321 Ashland Pl Brooklyn, NY 1121

***From 7-7:30 PM there will be naloxone training from VOCAL-NY
