Health Educator Nick Wiggins recognized at Gay City News Impact Awards

Alliance’s own Nick Wiggins was celebrated last night at the GNC Impact Awards for his contributions to HIV awareness, prevention, and support efforts as a Health Educator at Alliance. He brings great passion, compassion, and knowledge to his work every day. Three colleagues, Jonathan, Luis, and Guy, from Alliance’s prevention team, joined Nick on his special night. Scenes from Alliance's Open House

On Thursday, October 26, over 100 friends joined us for our first Open House event in four years. The festive event featured food and drink, slideshows of Alliance’s programs, a short excerpt from the upcoming documentary Rise Up, and remarks by staff, Peers, and Board Members. Thank you to all who attended.

Mammography Screenings Courtesy of American-Italian Cancer Foundation

On Monday, October 9, Alliance hosted a no-cost breast cancer screening event at our CASA Washington Heights community center in partnership with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation’s mobile mammography program. The mobile unit had space for consultations, general physical exams, and mammography exams. Over 25 women came to access these services.

Recovery Month at Alliance

September is Recovery Month, and in honor of all people who currently or previously dealt with substance dependency, Alliance designs interactive programs and resources year-round. Last week, we held 11 recovery-themed events across our community centers, including recovery bingo, arts and crafts, and a screening of the 2021 documentary film Anonymous Sister, a story of inter-generational substance dependency. We were delighted that the film director, Jamie Boyle, joined us for a Q&A session.
